Where is Kansai?

Kansai, also known as the Kinki region, is located in the western part of Japan’s main island, Honshu. It is home to some of Japan’s most famous cultural and historical sites, including Kyoto’s ancient temples, Osaka’s bustling food scene, and Nara’s friendly deer.🦌

This area is also famous for its distinct dialect (Kansai-ben) and delicious regional cuisine like takoyaki 🐙and okonomiyaki.

Definitions of Kansai vary, but this guide includes the seven prefectures most commonly associated with the region. See the map below! ⬇️

Hanami Tips

hanami

  • Timing: Check bloom forecasts to plan your visit during peak season.
  • Check the rules: Not all parks allow you to barbeque, drink alcohol, or picnic. Check your desired location’s official site.
  • Arrive early: Secure the best viewing spots by going early; you can spread out a picnic blanket/sheet to claim your spot.
  • Essentials: Bring a picnic blanket, food and drinks, and warm clothing for chilly evenings. Some parks do not have garbage bins nearby, so bring trash bags just in case!
  • Local foods: Why not try local specialties like Osaka’s takoyaki, Kyoto’s yatsuhashi, or Kobe’s famous wagyu beef bento?
  • Respect the trees: Do not pull on tree branches or pick the flowers. Let everyone enjoy their beauty! 🌸✨
